I Have Drank Out of this Bitter Cup

"And behold, I am the light and the life of the world; and I have drunk out of that bitter cup which the Father hath given me, and have glorified the Father in taking upon me the sins of the world....".  (3 Nephi 11:11)  34 AD

After Jesus Christ's Atonement, death upon the cross and his resurrection, he was then directed by his Father in heaven to come over to the Western Hemisphere to visit and teach the Nephites.  He had truly partaken of the bitter cup of taking upon him and suffering for the sins of the world even the atonement.  Immediately after coming down out of the sky he introduced himself to the Nephites and then explained that he had drank the bitter cup of the atonement.
He also later taught them about the sacrament and commands his disciples that they should give the sacramental "cup" to the multitude of people that were there that they might drink of it.

"And it came to pass that when he said these words, he, [Jesus Christ], commanded his disciples that they should take... the cup and drink of it, and that they should also give unto the multitude that they might drink of it."  (3 Nephi 18:8)  34 AD

<< Antiquities of Mexico by Lord Edward Kingsborough
"The Aztecs have a tradition of a God suffering and crucified named Quetzalcoatl, and of one
[John the Baptist], preceding Him to prepare the way and call them to repentance.  Tezcatlipoca offered Him a cup, calling Him “Mu son,” of His...weeping bitterly after having drunk its contents; forsaking temporal kingdoms for spiritual, being called away by the Father.  At His departure there were four earthquakes.  He promised to return again and redeem His people.”  (The Americas Before Columbus, p. 36 a quote from Kingsborough)
--“Even in the...1840’s...Kingsborough’s works had not reached America."

What I find very interesting is that there are various pre-Columbus carvings of Quetzalcoatl, the Descending God, coming out of the sky with a container or cup in His hands.

Also a pre-Columbus cup from Quintana Roo, Mexico, carved with the Descending God on it.
